5 Reasons I Switched to Natural Beauty Products

Over the last decade, I’ve slowly but surely been switching my beauty and skin care products to more natural ones on a quest for better health. Our skin is our largest organ—everything we put on it gets absorbed into our bodies. But products don’t simply get absorbed…once inside, they affect our body and have to be processed out. I want to make sure I’m putting products on my skin that have a positive effect and aren’t taxing my body in any way.

I’m always thrilled when I find companies like Primally Pure who are on a mission to provide safe, natural products that actually help our bodies. They are a family-based company that stay focused on providing high quality, non-toxic skincare products that support a healthy body and radiant skin.

Here’s 5 reasons why I made the switch to natural skincare products and how Primally Pure helps me reach my non-toxic, natural beauty goals:

1. Natural Deodorant is Important.

We’ve been sold this idea that we need to “not sweat.” It’s become so ingrained in our society that many people just accept the idea of antiperspirants. I get it. We don’t want to stink or walk around with sopping armpits. But it doesn’t have to be one or the other. Your body can naturally detox (i.e. sweat) AND you can “not stink” while feeling dry.

We don’t need actually need antiperspirants. We shouldn’t be messing with our body’s natural processes. Sweat happens for a reason. If you are motivated to change only one product from your conventional options to a more natural one, I highly recommend you make the switch from an antiperspirant to natural deodorant. It is the most important swap you can make.

There is a transition period when switching from antiperspirant to deodorant. Stick with it. This very short transition period is worth it to your overall health and long-term well-being. My personal favorite is Primally Pure’s Blue Tansy Deodorant.

2. Oil Makes Sense.

We’ve been taught to think that oil is our skin’s enemy, but it’s not. Quite the opposite. Oil is key to clean, healthy, and balanced skin. I started using Primally Pure’s oil cleanser on my skin with great results. Have you ever heard of the scientific principle that “like dissolves like?” That idea applies to your skin as well.

Their oil cleanser contains simple ingredients (including a lot of oils) that can help balance your skin. Many skin issues can be resolved with proper cleansing. We’re constantly bombarded with ads telling us to buy cleansing products that are loaded with unnecessary chemicals and additives, all while promising us magical results. Take a look at the cleansing products you’re currently using. Do you know what all of the ingredients are for? When it comes to skin care, I’ve found that less is more. You can recognize (& pronounce!) all of the ingredients on the back of Primally Pure’s cleansing oil.

If you have skin sensitivities, acne that gets easily aggravated, or premature aging, your skin cleanser might be to blame. The oil cleanser I use helps dissolve blackheads (one of my biggest issues having large pores). It also smells like a day at the spa. I don’t mind washing my face these days because it’s like an aromatherapy session (and it’s way more effective than the baby wipe I was using most of the time).

Remember, there is always a transition period when we switch from conventional back to a more natural approach. When we change skin cleansers, that transition can take two weeks to two months as we adjust to new products. How many of us have actually given a product that long to prove itself? Not many of us because we’re encouraged to quickly jump to the next best thing. But I know I’m not budging from my new natural approach…besides, what’s a few weeks in our overall lifetime when we know we’re doing what is best for our body?

3. Better Overall Health.

I don’t just want to be healthier, I want to be radiant. And radiance happens when we are happy and healthy. When we feel radiant, we glow from the inside out.

On my health journey, I was focusing so much on what foods I was putting in my body that I didn’t think to consider what I was putting on my skin. But once I found out how harmful “fragrance” is for our bodies, I started reading my skincare labels and not just my food labels. I was shocked at what I found…so many chemicals, so much unnecessary fragrance, and so much junk that was taxing my body’s systems.

I now give my skincare product labels the same attention I give my food labels. I can’t “unknow” what I now know. Take a look at Primally Pure’s product labels. They are clean, non-toxic, and natural—THAT is what skincare ingredient lists should look like.

4. I Waste Less (Plastic AND Money).

An interesting side effect of switching to natural skincare products is that I create a lot less waste. Many of the natural products I use don’t use a lot of plastic (if any) in their packaging. Primally Pure’s glass jars are no exception.

I’m also not buying as many products trying to find that “magic one” that’s going to fix all my problems. As a result I buy less—which saves me money (which also creates less trash simply because I am buying less). It’s really a win-win for me and the planet.

5. It’s Easy to Support Small Business.

One of the awesome consequences of purchasing more natural products is that a lot of them tend to come from small family businesses. The founder of Primally Pure, Bethany McDaniel, created her company in the kitchen of her family farmhouse. She had a vision that revolved around purity and potency—and she made it come to life. Bethany wasn’t satisfied with the answers she was getting when it came to her skin health and took matters into her own hands. She saw a need and filled it. Her successful endeavors are now available to all of us who are seeking better health like she did when she started her company.

Beautiful things are born out of people who are motivated to find their own solutions. It’s the fire that fuels the start of many small businesses. How fortunate we are to get to come along for that ride when we support family businesses like Bethany’s. It reminds me of one of my favorite sentiments: a rising tide lifts all ships. Supporting small business is always a win-win.

I’m still on my journey toward better health and radiance…and that’s okay! It’s an awesome path to be on, one that will benefit me now and in the future. I’m finding all of the new information inspiring instead of overwhelming! I also recognize that this is a chance for me to be a positive role model for my kids and teach them the benefits of natural skincare and a healthy lifestyle from a young age.
