This month has been intense

We’ve looked at the big topics in our hearts and minds, reflected (A LOT!), and took action…all while completing the tasks that fill our everyday lives. I’m proud of you. This month really was a giant leap forward on our quest to align our values and our actions. Spend some time reading over your journal answers from this month. Which value stands out to you the most? Why? Does it feel like the most important one in your life or one that needs to become the most important? The one that needs the most work? The one you find the easiest? Write about what area of your life you are inspired to focus on more moving forward.

The good news…next month is going to be lighter! June 2019 is Mom Style month! Join us here tomorrow as we dive into Mom Style! We’ll be talking self-care, hair, make-up, clothing, and feeling like our best selves while busting through comparison on our way to being inspired and being an inspiration!

Admiration

Whose global legacy do you admire? This can be people who are living or passed. Take a few moments to write down whose vision and drive inspired generations of change, movements, raised awareness, and made the world a better place. Be specific about character traits or actions this person has/had that have earned your admiration.

Thank You Day!

The first bonus day at the end of each month is always Thank You Day! There have been people who have helped you along the way this month…let’s thank them for their support! Think about the person you are grateful for and then send them a thank you as a letter, text, call, or an in-person hug. Take your gratitude off the paper and express it!

Will/Trust: Deadline

It’s almost the last day of the month. Commit to completing your will/trust before the end of the month so you can finally cross it off your to-do list!

Have you completed your will/trust? If yes, how does it feel to be done? If not, what steps do you need to take to complete your will/trust? What actions can you take today to meet your goal/deadline?

Success

Success is personal. For most of us, it no longer looks like achieving the “American Dream” (which feels outdated and irrelevant to many in our modern culture). A successful life is achieving what we set out to do. It doesn’t have to look like money or a job title. A successful life can be one where we lived our values, built our character, grew as a person, loved well…it’s a life where our actions and values aligned. What would you define as a successful life for you? Do you feel you’re on that path? What do you need to focus on or do to remain on that path?

Again, this doesn’t have to be a heavy topic but one that inspires you. If you ever start to get bogged down with the topics, move toward the lightness of it, the inspiration, the passion, the excitement of things to come! Where we are in this moment isn’t where we will always be. Every moment that goes by is our opportunity to do better, feel better, and live our best life.

Causes

Do you currently support causes? If so, which ones? Why do you feel called to support them? Are there causes you would like to support more? Which ones do you believe in? These can be specific organizations or simply general topics.

Spend a few moments thinking outside yourself and how all of this week’s topics align for you: philanthropy, purpose, and generosity. Causes/organizations create the opportunity for putting these three elements into action.

Generosity

How do you define generosity? What role does generosity play in philanthropy? Do you value generosity? Are you known as a generous person? Is this a value you want to pass onto your children? Write about it.

Purpose

A sense of purpose is important. As mothers, our sense of purpose can feel obvious from the outside, but not as clear from the inside. Do you feel a sense of purpose? Do you have a focus in life that is driving your every day actions? How would you describe your purpose?

If this idea feels overwhelming, start with the “who” in your life. Write about who you show up for…your children, family, yourself when you focus on your health and self care, etc. Or draw from your week 3 answers about values and character.

Life mission statements are no small task. That doesn’t mean it has to feel heavy. Getting clear on our sense of purpose and what we feel called to do can bring freedom, excitement, and inspiration. It can add meaning and depth to our lives as women and mothers. If might require more than just one day of journaling. Write a bit about where you are now to create head and heart space for your purpose to unfold.

Philanthropy

Generosity of spirit and resources is not something reserved for when we pass, but something we practice can practice now. Are you philanthropic? Do you have an abundance mindset and share your time/money/energy/support when you can? Do you value philanthropy? Look up to philanthropists and those who help others? Is philanthropy a value you want to pass on to your children? Write about the role of philanthropy in your life and legacy.

(Note: If you feel called to dive deeper into philanthropy, November 2018’s Guided Journal is about Philanthropy. It’s an opportunity to spend an entire month on the subject! Go check it out here).

Action Taker

Continuing last week’s discussion of values and character…are you an action taker? Are you known for taking action? Showing up and putting in the work is important. You’re proving to yourself that you can be an action taker by showing up and answering the journal prompts. Are you taking those answers one step further and making them come to life off the page? Write about what inspires you to take action, what some of your hang ups about taking action might be, and if action is a current family value.

From the blues of Maui to the blues of Idaho 💙 From the blues of Maui to the blues of Idaho 💙 You Guys. We went for a drive & made Chris stop the truck when I saw this bright blue spruce next to this perfect lavender and this whole color palette has taken over my visions for my home😍

We’ve officially known each other for 12 years o We’ve officially known each other for 12 years on 8-8-22. Twelve. Years. We jokingly say we have been married for that long even though it’s really only been 9 years. But my gosh. 12 years of loving & living & growing with someone. That feels like something.

We met at Kimo’s on Maui. Shared a chair. Listened to Willie K. All by chance.  We talked for quite a while before we even kissed. Things were a whirlwind from there. It feels like we lived together right away and got married right away even if there were a few years in-between sharing that chair and sharing our vows 😉

This life is better together. It just is. We were gushing about it just last night. Our marriage isn’t perfect. We have our squabbles like everyone. But we also have moments where we’re still blown away…moments where we reflect with joy “that someone else could love me that much.” We both feel that way about the other.

Marriage is the best. I do need a man. I want a man. And he wants me. And needs me. I can tell you that whatever lies our culture tries to tell you otherwise, this. is. it. Marriage is the best thing ever. 💕

Don’t underestimate the power of a book. This bo Don’t underestimate the power of a book. This book—The Biggest Story Bible Storybook—is one that I keep out in the open for my kids to see. They pick it up on their own all the time. They have carried it with them on adventures in the truck and to church. It’s probably the thickest, heaviest book they have ever lugged around or held on their lap. The images and stories have brought up countless conversations and encouraged endless questions. And this is ONE book in our home. One. Let that sink in.

This book is not just an item on our homeschool “to read” list that needs to be read and then checked off. It’s a book full of life. Homeschool (and life) is not something to merely check off and move on. It’s a way to hold space for living & loving.

What a gift we’re given to slow down and do just that. And what a gift we’re giving by encouraging our kids to slow down and savor the good stuff (sometimes on repeat).

Mama, you don’t have to “hold the space” all by yourself. There are amazing things at your fingertips that can help. Things like one miraculous book that will hold the space with you.

Feeling overwhelmed by your to do list or to read list as you start this school year? Remember this. Sometimes it’s one thing of your desire revisited many times that makes a bigger impact than many things checked off of a list that was created by someone else. 😘
My babies aren’t this little anymore, but it sho My babies aren’t this little anymore, but it shows a time when I questioned my patience levels as a mom. The world around me was pouring messages into my mind that led me to believe that I didn’t have any patience or I wasn’t enough unless I could be even and calm, cool and collected every single moment of every single day. And that just wasn’t true. It isn’t true. Then there were messages telling me that if you “lose your shit” on your kids all the time, you’re also an awesome mom because kids are annoying and in the way. Also not true. But these extremes have led us to believe that we aren’t enough no matter what we do. It’s a myth that you don’t have enough patience to homeschool your kids. An internal belief that has been heavily influenced by outside messages like the ones above. But the truth? Such messages lead us to sell ourselves short. If you believe you don’t have the patience to homeschool your kids, you’re selling yourself short, mama. We learn beside our children. We learn with them. We are learning all the time. And if patience is an area that you feel you need to learn more about, homeschool is an opportunity to do just that. We ALL wrestle in this motherhood journey…with a wide variety of emotions, tasks, schedule snafus, sleep deprivation, health concerns, relationships, self esteem—so many things. But we are here on this planet and in this role as mother to learn. We’re here to improve. And our children are the greatest motivator for self improvement. We are here breaking generational cycles, becoming better, and ever evolving into the mother and woman we want to be. Improved patience is something you can and will learn when homeschooling. It won’t be automatic, it will be gradual. But we can show up with a willingness to work on patience, grace when that growth is hard, and dedication to being/doing better. Because our kids are worth it. We are worth it. We are capable, loving, and kind. We can do this. YOU can do this.

Someone said to me this week, “You live for your Someone said to me this week, “You live for your children, everyone knows that.” I was stopped in my tracks…Is that true? Is that what people think of me? Is it obvious? How do I feel about this statement? And the truth is, I was flattered. Her statement made me feel appreciated. I felt seen. I felt understood. I didn’t feel anything like “Oh gosh, does this mean I’ve lost myself?” Not at all—instead I felt validated and honored. Do I live for my children? Yes. Do Chris and I both live for our children? Yes—we moved our whole lives to give them better opportunities, security, and more adventures. My life DOES revolve around my role as a mother and I’m not anything but THRILLED by this. What a deep, deep honor it is to be the mother to these four beautiful children. A week later, I’m still humbled and elated by my friend’s passing comment. Would that we all feel so seen and honored this week 🙏🏼
